Oak Ridge Hardscaping Elements

Summer is in full swing! Are you enjoying it to the fullest or do you feel like your property is missing something? You may want to think about adding some hardscaping elements. These features may let you enjoy summer even more. If you have a large property with a lot of landscaping work, adding hardscaping can take it to the next level. Our team of Oak Ridge hardscaping experts can help you from design to implementation. We want to see your property achieve its full potential this summer with a hardscaping project.

Walkways & Paths
Walkways and pathways can be used throughout gardens as well as entire properties. They can be used to highlight certain areas. By providing a place for people to walk, you can still maintain your landscape. People will be less likely to leave a designated path and wander throughout your property. They can also be functional, providing people a way to get from here to there.

Walls
Walls don't always have to be used to keep something in or out. They can be use decoratively, or used to break up space. If you have had steps installed, a wall could go on either side to give your stairs some context. Also, if you have an outdoor living area, you can define the space with a low wall. Walls can be used to highlight higher features of your landscape, making the top of the wall level with the area you wish to highlight.

Outdoor Living Space

An outdoor living space can combine every aspect of hardscaping. It is probably the most in-depth hardscaping project you could complete. You will probably incorporate walkways, walls and even more. A good outdoor living space will creatively use hardscaping in a number of ways. Our team of Oak Ridge hardscaping experts can help you design a plan.

Kernersville Landscapers Provide Insight on Landscaping Design

Are you thinking of installing a new landscape? At Oak Ridge Shrubbery & Landscape, we have been in the business for almost 10 years. We want to share some of our expertise with those just starting to plan out new scenery.  As your local Kernersville landscapers, we are able to create the perfect design for your property. We understand you might want to start thinking up some ideas on your own, so we'll give you some of the basics.

Harmony
It is important to focus on the big picture when planning a landscape design. Don't break it up into front yard, backyard, etc. The whole plan needs to work in harmony. Choosing plants in colors and styles that match is important. You also need to take into consideration the existing flow of your property. If there are natural hills or embankments, they can be incorporated into your plan.

Color
Choosing colorful plants is probably one of the most exciting parts of installing a landscape. As your local Kernersville landscapers, we advise you stick to only a few colors. This will help keep the harmony, as we talked about in the previous paragraph. Going with a basic overall color theme will make it easier to match all the aspects of your landscape.

Proportional
Keep in mind plants are small when you buy them, but they grow up!  The size of the overall project is important when you're designing your landscape. If you're creating a small garden haven, choosing large trees would be silly. By the same token, if you install one small feature in the middle of a huge backyard, it will get lost. Choosing plants proportional to your project will create a better visual effect.

5 Spring Garden Tips from you Local Colfax Garden Center

Some days, it's really starting to feel like spring! We're sure some of you are itching to get back out into your garden. Oak RidgeShrubbery, your local Colfax garden center, wants to give you some tips for getting your garden back up in working order. If you haven't visited our garden center, it's time!

1. Study your yard. Make a list of all the things you'll need to do this spring with your garden. Have it handy so you can go to your local Colfax garden center and pick up all the necessary tools and materials. Do some basic maintenance of your landscape, such as raking and making a compost pile.

2. Prune plants around your landscape. It's important to prune trees and shrubs around your property. Remove dead or damaged branches. Also, trim summer-blooming shrubs once now and then once again after the spring bloom to get rid of any cold-damaged branches.

3. Start preparing your beds as soon as possible. Once it starts getting nice out and the soil is workable, get outside and begin preparing your beds. Begin by removing any weeds or debris that has accumulated over the cooler seasons. Spread a four-inch layer of compost or manure over your bed and cultivate the soil about one-foot down.

4. Begin planting. Stop by your local garden center to acquire your plants! Your local garden center may also be able to help you with designing your garden and landscape, so check with them for their input. Once you have gathered all the materials you need, you can go to town. Bare-root trees, shrubs and perennials should be planted by early spring. Transplants and container-grown plants can be planted at any time during the growing season.

5. Water your garden. Be sure to check with your local garden center to see how often your plants need watered. They may be able to help you devise a watering schedule to make sure nothing gets missed. It is important to keep up with watering your new plants, especially during their first weeks of life.

When you're ready to visit your local Colfax garden center, Oak Ridge Shrubbery, stop by 1016 Highway 68 North, Oak Ridge, NC 27310. We'd love to help you to plan for your garden.

Ensuring Your Yard Always Looks Great

We all wish our home had a yard looked like something from HGTV or out of a magazine, but many of us don’t have the time necessary to make that happen. So, we head to our local East Petersburg garden center and look for plants that are easy to maintain. As one article noted:

Of course, that doesn't mean that we have tabled the thought of having that yard that looks like it belongs on the cover of a garden center magazine.

What can be done to make sure your yard always look spectacular? Plant grass that works well for your area, and doesn’t need much maintenance. When it comes to trees, know the differences between the three main categories (ornamental, evergreens and shade). Also, be sure to use the winter months wisely, where you want to see your flowers and about your age, due to lawn maintenance.

Designing the Perfect Landscape

There are certain elements that make each landscape work. And any professional Winston Salem landscape designer will know what these components are, so they can help you plan the perfect landscape. As one article noted:
If you were to visit 20 yards in the same neighborhood, you would not find two landscape designs that are the same. However, it is likely that you would find certain elements in the designs to be the same.
So, what are the elements that make a landscape design work? The first is lines, which may include gentle arches and curves. There is also the balance, which is necessary for a design to work.  Also necessary are repetition, rhythm, color, form and texture. Understanding these elements and what they can do for your landscape design are necessary in creating the backyard you've always wanted.
